Jurgen Klopp insists he does not need a break and has the energy and fight to turn Liverpool’s form around.
Remarkably, just eight months on from ending the club’s 30-year title drought, Klopp has been forced to field questions over his Reds future.
Social media has been awash with rumours that Klopp, who recently lost his mother, was ready to step aside following Saturday’s defeat to Leicester.
That was the third game in a row Liverpool have lost in the Premier League and the German has even been made the bookmakers’ favourite to be the next top-flight boss to lose his job.
But in his press conference on Monday, Klopp rubbished those rumours and insisted he is going nowhere.
He said: “Rumours of me quitting or taking a break? Neither [is true]. I don’t need a break.
“The last thing I want to do is talk about private things in a press conference, but everybody knows we have had a tough time and we always deal with it as a family 100 per cent.
“When I came here to work, I am 53, I have been in football for 30 years, I can switch off, I don’t carry things around.
“Of course we are influenced by things that happen but nobody has to worry about me.”
Klopp added: “The beard gets more and more grey, I don’t sleep a lot but I am full of energy.
“The situation is a challenge, an interesting challenge. Nobody wrote a book about how you come in a situation like this and how you solve it but we will solve it.”
Liverpool’s latest setback – the 3-1 reverse at Leicester – has left them 13 points behind Premier League leaders Man City, who have a game in hand.
It led to Klopp conceding the Reds’ title hopes as they battle for a top four spot.
Fans have shown their support for the manager, however, putting up a banner at Anfield which reads: ‘Jurgen Klopp YNWA’.
“The banner is nice, obviously, but not necessary,” added Klopp. “I don’t feel I need special support. I don’t need a break.”
During Liverpool’s run of just two wins from ten league matches, Klopp’s mother, Elisabeth, died at the age of 81.
Asked how he is ahead of the Reds’ Champions League clash with RB Leipzig on Tuesday, the 53-year-old added: “There is a lot of stuff going around, politics, private things, but I’m okay.
“Absolutely okay. We had training and an analysing meeting before that. And we are close to flying to Budapest for the first time.”
