Liverpool ‘crisis’ has been overplayed as Jurgen Klopp’s men were ‘comfortable’ in Champions League return against RB Leipzig, talkSPORT told

Fans, pundits and the media have overplayed Liverpool’s ‘crisis’, according to talkSPORT host Perry Groves.

The former Arsenal man was in the Sports Bar studio on Tuesday night to bring all the reaction to the Reds’ winning return to Champions League action against RB Leipzig.

Groves says Jurgen Klopp’s side were ‘comfortable’ as they sealed a 2-0 victory in Germany, against the team that currently sit second in the Bundesliga, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane put Liverpool in the driving seat in their round-of-16 clash.

The win came at the perfect time for the Merseyside club, having ended a poor run of results which has seen the champions lose three straight games in the Premier League, have their incredible unbeaten run at Anfield ended, and with manager Klopp facing questions over his future.

But Groves insists any talk of a ‘crisis’ at the club was just hype.

“I must admit, I thought Liverpool were comfortable,” said the ex-Gunner.

Klopp was this week forced to deny suggestions he could leave Liverpool, and answered his critics by guiding the Reds to a much-needed win in Europe

“It’s probably just quietened all the noise down a little bit because they’re the big story in town at the moment, with being outside the top four, losing at home after that 66-game unbeaten run, then all the stories about Jurgen Klopp…

“I was one who looked at Liverpool and, yes it is a big story, but the games they lost against Man City, when it was 1-1 it could have gone either way and then Alisson throws two in.

“And at Leicester, I thought Liverpool were the better team for 70 minutes and they pressed the life out of Leicester in the first-half.

“The performances were not as bad as the results were.

“The home games against Brighton and Burnley were not great, but those two games against two of the top teams, I actually think their performances were quite good.”

“Liverpool were by far the better side and they deserved to win it,” agreed Sports Bar host Jason Cundy.

The former Chelsea defender also aimed a dig at German football, suggesting there’s a big problem if that RB Leipzig team are the second-best in the Bundesliga…

“Liverpool created numerous opportunities without really polishing the final ball, the final shot or the final pass.

“It was a good win for Liverpool but, God, aren’t RB Leipzig pretty bang average?

“That’s not a good team, mate.

“If they’re the best team in the Bundesliga… the game against Manchester United and Old Trafford was 5-0 – is that the second best side in Germany?

“Because if it is… wow!”
