Tottenham progressed to the last eight of the Carabao Cup as they beat Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shootout on Tuesday.
Timo Werner scored his first goal for the Blues in the first half but that was cancelled out by Erik Lamela late on as it ended 1-1.
Mason Mount was the only man to miss a penalty as Spurs won the shootout 5-4 to go through to the next round.
Werner gave Chelsea the lead 19 minutes into the match as he fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Cesar Azpilicueta did well on the right to turn Tottenham debutant Sergio Reguilon and then found the German striker in space.
An incident between the two managers on the sideline is what caught a lot of people’s attention midway through the half.
Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard go back a long way and enjoyed plenty of success together with the Blues but that didn’t stop them having a heated exchange on the touchline after the visitors had gone ahead.
Edouard Mendy made several neat saves and commanded his penalty area well on his debut as he denied Gedson Fernandes and Erik Lamela.
The goal was enough to give the Blues a 1-0 lead at the break.
Spurs were the better side immediately after the break and Mendy justified his £22million price tag with a brilliant save to deny Reguilon a leveller.
The hosts got in down the right and Serge Aurier pulled the ball back to the Spaniard, whose fierce first-time shot was beaten away by the goalkeeper.
Aurier then curled a tame effort wide and Steven Bergwijn sliced one over as Spurs put pressure on Chelsea’s goal.
Mourinho called for Kane in the 70th minute and as Spurs chased the game, holes opened up at the other end, which should have seen Chelsea kill the game.
Werner shot straight at Lloris from a good position and then Hudson-Odoi blazed over on a two-on-one situation.
Eric Dier had in fact left the pitch just before the Hudson-Odoi chance as he needed the toilet with Mourinho spotted chasing him down the tunnel.
Kane had an opening as he curled over before Spurs finally got their reward with seven minutes remaining.
Reguilon made up for his earlier defensive when his cross found Lamela with space at the back post and he knocked the ball past Mendy.
The Tottenham equaliser was enough to see the game end 1-1 and took the Carabao Cup tie straight to penalties.
A dramatic shootout went the home side’s way as Mason Mount was the only player to miss a spot kick.
