Slaven Bilic became the first Premier League managerial casualty of the 2020/21 season on Wednesday after being shown the door by struggling West Brom.
The news came despite the club, who sit 19th in the English top flight, picking up a valuable point in a 1-1 draw at Manchester City a day earlier.

Bilic had been in charge at the Hawthorns since the summer of June 2019, when he replaced Darren Moore.
He guided the Baggies back into the Premier League at the first time of asking in his maiden campaign in charge.
But they have struggled on their return to the top-flight and, despite the impressive draw at the Etihad, are two points adrift of safety.
So who could be the next top-flight boss to suffer the same fate as Bilic? Mikel Arteta remains under serious pressure following Arsenal’s disastrous 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Sunday night and is still leading the sack race.
Things went from bad to worse for the Gunners at the weekend as they suffered a fourth-consecutive home defeat in the league – for the first time since 1959 – and continued their worst start to a season in almost 40 years.

Arteta’s misfortune was summed up as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended his goal drought by heading a Burnley corner into his own net, but it was Granit Xhaka’s moment of madness which will leave fans fuming.
With Arsenal on top, the Swiss international was sent off following a VAR review after needlessly putting his hand on Ashley Westwood’s throat.
There were 2,000 fans inside the Emirates watching the match, but Arsenal’s display made the stadium feel eerily quiet, and the loudest noise came as the full-time whistle was met with jeers.
Rumours suggested Arteta had three games to save his job before this weekend, but the Arsenal manager could now be under more immediate pressure as the result leaves the Gunners five points above the relegation zone in 15th.

The pressure has eased on Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was leading the sack race prior to last weekend’s action, but he has now dropped to 3/1 to be axed following a goalless draw with arch nemesis Manchester City.
Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United job remains at serious risk following yet another defeat – most recently against Southampton – having picked up just one point from the opening 12 games of 2020/21.
