Simon Jordan has criticised West Brom for their decision to sack manager Slaven Bilic following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
And the talkSPORT pundit has responded to widespread claims Sam Allardyce is set to replace him, questioning why the experienced coach would even want the Hawthorns job.
Bilic was sacked by West Brom on Wednesday, with the club languishing down in 19th place in the Premier League table, two points from safety, after just one win from 13 games this season.
Big Sam is widely believed to be close to an agreement to take over, with the Baggies looking to the survival specialist to save their season.
But the decision has backfired for the club, with talkSPORT inundated with calls on Wednesday as supporters lamented Bilic’s exit and protested Allardyce’s rumoured appointment.
Allardyce, who has been without a job since leaving Everton in 2018, has been described as the perfect man to rescue the struggling Midlands club, who are in real danger of dropping straight back down to the Championship.
But former Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes Bilic deserved more time to turn things around.
And he doesn’t think Big Sam would want the West Brom job anyway, saying he ‘HATES’ his ‘Fireman Sam’ moniker and was searching for a job with a strong relationship with the club’s owners.
“I feel Bilic deserved more time,” Jordan told talkSPORT host Jim White.
“On a footballing basis and what his team are currently doing, I felt he had enough about him to be given a little bit longer.
“I find it difficult to have sympathy for managers because, unlike the rest of us he’ll get paid up for his job when he loses it, and if gets some modicum of success and a bigger club comes along, he’d be out the door and take all the best players with him.
“But, on a football basis, I’m not sure this is a fabulous decision.
“I’m also not sure, with the greatest respect to West Brom, why Sam Allardyce would want to go to West Brom.
“He made a statement about working closely with the ownership, well we’ve got West Brom fans calling into the show saying the owners don’t come to the games and they’re not that interested.
“I don’t understand that it’s a shoo-in for Sam to want to take it!
“And Sam hates the moniker ‘Fireman Sam’. He HATES it!
“He regularly comes on talkSPORT and says, ‘I hate that, it’s not what I represent, it’s what I’ve been labelled with’.”
